About

ACE (Accelerated Curriculum for Extension) is a select entry program exclusive to Point Cook Senior Secondary College. The program aims to accelerate the education of our high achieving students to allow them to achieve a high ATAR and study scores, as well as diversifying their curriculum through studying a greater variety of subjects.

Successful ACE applicants are required to undertake two accelerated VCE subjects of their choice in Year 10.

Due to the nature of the program, we are unable to accept applications for students in Year 11 and 12.

Structure

The ACE program is built around three key pillars:

Acceleration: Students undertake a curriculum that is ahead of their enrolled year level. ACE students study 2 VCE subjects in Year 10, which they continue as Year 12 subjects in Year 11, giving them a significant head start on their senior studies.
Extension: Students are presented with more challenging tasks and are expected to complete them to a higher standard, pushing beyond the boundaries of the standard curriculum.
Enrichment: Students engage in activities that broaden their awareness and experiences, including opportunities such as public speaking, guest speakers, university visits, and more.

The Program

Through the curriculum and classroom environment, the ACE program seeks to foster:

An enriching and accelerated curriculum that inspires students to set ambitious goals and collaborate with both peers and teachers to reach them.
An active commitment to the Point Cook Senior Secondary College community through involvement in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
A safe, inclusive, and supportive environment that guides students through their secondary education and prepares them for future study and life beyond school.

The ACE program is a fully integrated, select entry high achievement program, unique to Point Cook Senior Secondary College. As a cohort, students move through their studies together, engaging with a curriculum purposefully designed to challenge and extend them. While selection is based on academic merit, ACE students are often all-rounders with passions in sport, music, and other areas. Central to the program is the development of the whole person, nurturing individual strengths and wellbeing alongside outstanding academic achievement.

2027 Applications

Selection Process

Students are selected on the basis of a written application, interview, and test. High achieving students performing above the Victorian Curriculum achievement standards level are encouraged to apply.

Achievement & Communication

The progress of students is monitored regularly via Progress Reports twice a term.

Consultation between students, teachers and parents will occur when there are concerns as to whether the program best suits the student’s social, academic, and wellbeing development.

Students are encouraged to contact subject teachers, Advisory teachers, Year Level Coordinators if they are having difficulties or are worried about their progress in the program. Counselling can be arranged for students who are experiencing social, emotional, or academic problems.

The college provides parents (and students) with access to regular updates of student progress in all subjects via Compass.

Communication between parents and teachers occurs via the regular reporting system established at the school and through attendance at Parent Teacher interview nights.
